Inaugural Blog Entry A.K.A. My Todo List

Hi Everyone (or anyone really),

Welcome to the first posting in the Webworxshop Blog (yes I know I have to change the title above). This will be the more informal section of the site, here you'll find random musings, rants and some technical tips as and when I come across them. Basically, this is going to be all the things a blog should be (I hope).

I'm going to use this post to say something about the site you're looking at right now. That is, although the site is now online, it is by no means finished (it probably never will be as I'm always going to be able to think of something else to add). However, I think it's in a finished enough state to actually allow visitors and get into the Google index.

This site, as well as being the 'base of operations' for Webworxshop, is intended to be a showcase of my abilities and even a playground for the things I've wanted to try out but haven't been able to fit anywhere else. Here I'm free of client requirements and can do exactly what I feel like! As I work on this site in my spare time, while not studying or working on other peoples sites, development may be slow, but hopefully my posts here will at least get read.

Below is a list of things I still want to do on the site (in no particular order):

  • Fix this site in Internet Explorer 7! Right now it only really works in Firefox. Internet Explorer 6 is a lost cause, so I won't be supporting it, if you're still using it then you should Get Firefox.
  • Fiddle with this blog, change the title, etc. - DONE: replaced the drupal Blog module with a View.
  • Flesh out the site content. I want to add some subpages to the about page and add some images and stuff.
  • Use panels on the main page, once the Panels module for Drupal 6 is released.
  • Create a projects page/portfolio, to show off my work on other peoples sites.
  • Possibly create some kind of affiliate system so I can track backlinks from clients sites.
  • Fiddle with the styling, mainly in the main content area.
  • Add some dynamic Javascript stuff, including an animated search box similar to that on Lullabot, and a dynamic menu.

That's probably everything for now, I'm sure I'll think of more things later!

So for now, that's it. If you like the site or have any suggestions, leave a comment below.

Thanks for reading!

EDIT: I've started crossing off things in the list above when they're done.
